VP-level ecommerce in cruise is a genuine specialty. The people who understand direct booking strategy, OTA channel economics, and digital revenue architecture in travel are a small population. Most operators have never had someone with your background in the room — and they pay for that gap every year in OTA commissions they did not have to spend.
How to describe what you do

Your pitch changes depending on who you're talking to. Here are three versions.

"I help travel and hospitality brands close the gap between their digital revenue potential and what they are actually capturing. My most recent role was VP Ecommerce at MSC Cruises, running ecommerce at scale. Now I do focused engagements that move the numbers that matter — direct booking conversion, OTA dependency, ancillary attach."
Use this with VPs and C-suite buyers at cruise lines, hotel groups, and tour operators. "Digital revenue potential" and "OTA dependency" signal you understand their P&L. Let them ask follow-up questions.
"I help travel businesses sell more online without building a bigger team. Most operators have a website that exists but does not convert. I figure out why and fix it — usually in 60 to 90 days. I have done it at scale at MSC Cruises. Now I do it for companies that cannot afford a full-time VP."
Use this with independent agencies, boutique operators, and destination experience companies in South Florida. The "60 to 90 days" framing matters — they want a result with a timeline, not an open-ended engagement.
"Ecommerce advisor, travel and hospitality. I help brands stop losing revenue to OTA fees they do not have to pay. Most recently VP Ecommerce at MSC Cruises — now independent."
Do not say "open to opportunities." Do not say "passionate about travel." "Now independent" does the work — it says you chose this and you are not looking for a job.

Local — fastest path
South Florida travel operators
$175 – $210/hr · Project-based
Independent agencies, boutique tour operators, charter companies, and destination experience businesses in Miami-Dade and Broward. They are competing against online giants and losing on digital. VP-level ecommerce expertise from a major cruise line is rare at this market level — and that's your advantage.
Remote — mid-market
Mid-size cruise and tour operators
$225 – $275/hr · Project or retainer
River cruise lines, expedition operators, adventure tour companies doing $50M–$500M. They have budget for serious ecommerce work and rarely have someone with your background internally. Typically reached through former colleagues or direct outreach to their CMO.
Remote — adjacent
Hotels, resorts, vacation rental platforms
$210 – $250/hr · Usually retainer
Hospitality brands investing in direct booking and reducing OTA dependence. The revenue architecture problems are nearly identical to cruise. Your MSC background is a direct credential — you have done at scale what they are trying to figure out.
Longer term
Fractional VP Ecommerce
$275 – $325/hr · Monthly retainer
Travel brands that have grown past the point where a generalist can manage digital revenue but are not ready to hire a full-time VP. Embedded, part-time, ongoing. The highest-rate engagement type and the natural next stage once you have two or three project wins behind you.
On Miami. Carnival, Royal Caribbean, Norwegian, MSC — all headquartered within miles. Your proximity to that network and their alumni is a structural advantage most advisors do not have. Your first client is almost certainly already in your network.
Your first three moves
You know enough to start.
Here's what to do this week.
Most people wait until everything is ready. Nothing is ever ready. These three moves get you visible, credible, and in motion — before you feel ready to be any of those things.
01
This week
Write your first case study.
A case study is the single most useful thing you can have before your first client conversation. Not a resume line. A story: what was broken, what you did, what changed — with a number at the end. Describe a project below and we'll write it for you.

Next two weeks
Have three conversations in your Miami travel network.
Not pitches. You know people in this industry in this city. Tell them you have left MSC and are thinking about advisory work. Ask what is hard in their business right now. You are not closing anyone — you are learning what the problem sounds like in their words.

"Ecommerce Advisor, Travel and Hospitality. I help travel brands close the gap between their digital revenue potential and what they are actually capturing." Two sentences. No announcement. Just update it and let it exist.
